Interpretation and Engagement Lead
Manchester Museum, UK
I was tasked with researching and developing an interpretation plan for a 2m tall cast bronze Japanese incense burner. An interpretation plan outlines strategies for telling the story of an object and informs all aspects of its display. I researched and incorporated the cultural, historical, and aesthetic values of the object into the interpretation. Additionally, I interviewed conservation volunteers to ensure their experiences were documented and became part of the object's narrative, promoting inclusivity, active engagement, and a people-led approach to display. Visitors can now see the Japanese incense burner in the entrance hall of Manchester Museum.
