Florence Paintings Restoration
I was fortunate enough to study paintings restoration for a short while in 2019 thanks to a scholarship from the English Speaking Union and John Roberts Scholarship Fund.
The short summer programme at the Accademia Riaci focused on the restoration of 15th-century paintings, covering everything from reinforcing and patching canvas, the application of gesso and in-painting techniques, as well as investigating varnish removal using the Wolbers test.
Below are some images of me restoring a church tabernacle. The object was treated for woodworm using Per-xil 10, bore holes were filled using Balsite and then gesso was applied in preparation for in-painting.
