1700s Wall Painting at Stowe House

In 2019 I had the pleasure of conserving wall paintings in the East Staircase at Stowe House working under Rhiannon Clarricoates of Lincoln Conservation and in collaboration with Hirst Conservation.

Conservation was undertaken to partially reveal a 1700s wall painting attributed to either William Kent or Francesco Sleter.

While working at height, scalpels with 15T blades were used to carefully remove 5 different paint schemes. As lead paint was present, appropriate health & safety and PPE were upheld.

Having been there at the start of this exciting project, I am always delighted to see updates and find out what else has been revealed!
